Kit, Fuel Selector Valve Internal Parts - PA28
Effective October 6, 2021 Piper Aircraft issued a revised Service Letter 1273A for inspection of Fuel Selector Valves on all PA28-140's through PA28R-201's. Since inception of the PA28 Series there have been two models of the Fuel Selector Valves - both with the same Part Number, 491-947 (OLDER and NEWER). The Service Letter applies to the NEWER Style, colored Black and about 2 1/2" diameter with P/N 6S122, manufactured by Allen Aircraft Products.
Piper recommends changing these internal parts every 2000 hours and/or 7 years. There have been cases of Valves leaking internally allowing fuel to pass through them - when in the OFF position.
The hardest part of this inspection is to determine which Fuel Selector Valve you have in your aircraft. You physically will have to remove the Selector Handle & Cover and pull back the inside Side Wall and Insulation to View the Valve. Note: if you have the OLDER type Valve - check for leakage from the Shaft - if so, you do not have to remove the Valve from the aircraft, just unscrew the top of the Valve and replace the internal Shaft O-ring (see Part Number 752-822). If you have the NEWER Valve you will have to remove the Valve from the aircraft to service.
AirWard has three options for servicing the NEWER Valve:
Option One: Order the Kit, 652-781, and replace;
Option Two: Order our NEWER Valve with Kit Installed and Bench Checked for leakage;
Option Three: Send in your Valve and we will replace the internal Kit, bench check for leakage and return.
The Kit consists of the following parts:
2 each MS29513-114 O-ring;
2 each M83248/1-011 O-ring;
2 each C0180-022-0810M Compression Spring;
4 each MS19060-4812 (D) Ball Bearing;
