Effective December 28, 2020 - the FAA issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD2020-24-05, requiring Piper Aircraft (Piper), PA28-140/150/160/180/235 & PA32-260/300, to comply with Piper Mandatory Service Bulletin (MSB)1304A within 100 hours or 12 months.

On December 2, 2021, Piper revised MSB1304A to MSB1304B that includes installing Piper Access Kit 88692-701 on the FRONT side of the Main Spar.

This Piper Kit allows for access to the REAR of the Main Spar and the FRONT of the Rear Spar in the area between the Fuel Tanks and the Fuselage on all PA28/32 (listed above) Aircraft, except the Retractable Aircraft (No area to install - due to the placement of the Wheel Wells).

Piper MSB1244C and 1304A require access to the REAR of the Main Spar and FORWARD of the Aft Spar between the Fuel Tanks and the Fuselage, to accomplish a visual inspection for corrosion and protection of the Spars.

The Piper Kit consists of the following for BOTH wings:

2 each - 38571-002 Reinforcing Plates;

2 each - 38572-002 Access Covers;

16 each - 414-761 (MS24693S48) Screw, 8-32 - 3/8" Long - Machine - Countersunk - Non Structural - Cadmium Plated;

40 each - 420-722 (AN426AD4-4) Rivet, Solid - 1/8" Diameter - 1/4" Long - Countersunk - Aluminum;

Drawing/Instruction Detail.

AirWard provides the followings extras:

16 each - MS24693C48 Screw, 8-32 - 3/8" Long - Machine - Non Structural - Stainless;

Copy of AirWard "Helpful Hints" for installation and tools required to complete the inspection, along with photographs.

Note: This Kit allows access to the REAR of the Main Spar and FRONT of the Rear Spar.  Some aircraft have an Access Hole just FORWARD of the Main Spar between the Fuel Tank and the Fuselage.  If your aircraft does NOT have this Access Hole - you should consider a separate set of Access Covers, Piper Kit 88692-701, to inspect the FORWARD area of the Main Spar. The only other access is through the Lightning Holes in the Ribs on the Fuselage side of the Fuel Tank - which means removing the Fuel Tank (MSB1006).  If you remove the Fuel Tanks, you may want to accomplish the FRONT of the Main Spar Inspection and perform MSB1006 prior to completing the REAR of the Main Spar Inspection (MSB1304A).

AirWard also offers a "Complete Kit", AW-WAKIT-6, including Corrosion Preventative, copies of Airworthiness Directive 2020-24-05, MSB738B,1304A, 1244C and SSL508.
